A Solution to the Doublet-Triplet Splitting Problem in the Type IIB Supergravity
نویسنده
چکیده
The doublet–triplet mass splitting problem is one of the most serious problems in supersymmetric grand unified theories (GUTs). A class of models based on a product gauge group, such as the SU(5)GUT×U(3)H or the SU(5)GUT×U(2)H, realize naturally the desired mass splitting that is protected by an unbroken R symmetry. It has been pointed out that various features in the models suggest that these product-group unification models are embedded in a supersymmetric brane world. We show an explicit construction of those models in the supersymmetric brane world based on the Type IIB supergravity in ten dimensions. We consider T/(Z12 × Z2) orientifold for the compactified six extra dimensions. We find that all of the particles needed for the GUT-symmetry-breaking sector are obtained from the D-brane fluctuations. The three families of quarks and leptons are introduced at an orbifold singularity, although their origin remains unexplained. This paper includes extensive discussion on anomaly cancellation in a given orbifold geometry. Relation to the Type IIB string theory, realization of R symmetry as a rotation of extra-dimensional space, and effective superpotential at low energies are also discussed. 1 On leave from University of Tokyo, Japan

Minimalism in Inflation Model Building ∗
In this paper we demand that a successfull inflationary scenario should follow from a model entirely motivated by particle physics considerations. We show that such a connection is indeed possible within the framework of concrete supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories where the doublettriplet splitting problem is naturally solved. The Fayet-Iliopoulos D-term of a gauge U(1)ξ symmetry, which play...
متن کاملDynamical Doublet - Triplet Higgs Mass Splitting
We propose a new mechanism toward the solution to the doublet-triplet Higgs mass splitting problem in the supersymmetric grand unified theory. Our model is based on the gauge group SU(5)H × SU(5)GUT , where SU(5)H and SU(5)GUT are new strong gauge interaction and the ordinary grand unified gauge group, respectively. The doublet-triplet Higgs mass splitting is realized through the quantum deform...
متن کاملOn the Possible Solution of the Doublet - Triplet Splitting Problem in Extended Su ( N ≥ 8 ) Susy Guts
The generalization of the " custodial symmetry " mechanism which leads to the natural (without fine tuning) explanation of the doublet-triplet hierarchy is suggested in the frames of extended SU (N ≥ 8) SUSY GUTs. It is shown also that such type of SUSY GUT can predict the value of strong gauge coupling constant α S (M Z) consistent with present experimental data.

A non-minimal, semi-realistic version of supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theory is discussed. The solution of the doublet-triplet splitting problem leads to a better agreement between the predicted and observed values of the low-energy strong coupling constant and to a prolongation of the proton lifetime. A U(1) flavor symmetry allows to accommodate a realistic mass spectrum in the charged a...
متن کاملThe Role of the Anomalous U (1)A for the Solution of the Doublet–Triplet Splitting Problem
The anomalous U(1)A symmetry provides a generic method of getting accidental symmetries. Therefore, it can play a crucial role in solving the doublet–triplet splitting and the μ-problems via the pseudo-Goldstone mechanism: U(1)A can naturally uncorrelate the two grand unified Higgs sectors in the superpotential and simultaneously induce the desired expectation values through the Fayet–Iliopoulo...
